KSTAR Calms Edge-Localized Modes


A paper published in Nature Physics reveals that KSTAR scientists have recently figured out how to predict unwieldy “edge-localized modes” and calm them down resulting in improved plasma control. Using a non-symmetrical type of magnetic field the researchers were able to better control the plasma and prevent it from damaging the reactor. Part of the work was completed by Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory’s (PPPL) Jong-Kyu Park. Part of Korea’s KSTAR work is supporting ITER.
