Our sun’s plasma is primarily composed of ions and electrons that produce the energy released by the sun and helps keep the sun’s fusion reactions continuing. In November 2018 Chinese officials announced that their EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak) reached an electron temperature of 100 million degrees Celsius and ion temperature up to 50 million degrees Celsius. With their new reactor, HL-2M, officials expect to get the ion temperature up to 100 million degrees Celsius. China is participating in ITER and it is expected that this research will help further it’s effectiveness.
